Indian Head Massage

Indian head massage is a deeply relaxing and restorative treatment which helps to release the stress that has accumulated in the tissues and muscles of the upper back, shoulders, neck, head and face.

Where does it come from?

This massage was thought to be developed and practiced in India as far back as 1800BC but was brought to western civilisation in the 1970’s by Narendra Mehta. In 1978 Narendra came to England to train in physiotherapy. He understood and valued the importance of taking care of the body holistically and became upset that when given a full body massage a head massage did not take place.

Knowing the benefits of this particular massage, as well as identifying a gap in the market, he set up a stall within a Mind, Body and Spirit exhibition where people flocked to his stand to test out this wonderfully relaxing treatment…..and thus modern day Indian Head Massage was born.

Setting the Scene

Clients are invited to sit facing forward on my super comfortable massage chair.

During the massage I use a range of movements, including kneading, stroking and compression over the upper back, neck, shoulders, arms, hands and scalp. I will also gently stimulate and stroke pressure points on the face.

As the treatment progresses, I often notice an overall reduction in tension of my client's as their breathing begins to slow down as their mind quietens and by the end of the session they are filled with an overall sense of much welcomed peace and calm.
